for most of you smarty pants, you can guess by the title of this post how we spent our thanksgiving this year ;) yes, the dreaded SWINE FLU has hit the o's house... we are fine and well and getting better. but that's the end of the story so let me tell you the beginning...
wes and i flew to nashville last week to celebrate thanksgiving 1 week early with my family. andy couldn't make it due to work, but i was lucky and thankful that we shared the flight w/ my siblings so they could help entertain wes! he did wonderfully on the flight; slept a good amount and played a lot. his favorite was to walk up and down the aisles and say a joyful "hi" to every.single.passenger while i followed closely behind smiling and mouthing "sorry"... only to be back doing it again a few short minutes later.
we had a great time in nashville and LOVED kyah and dustin's new place and their neighborhood! we spent a lot of time cooking, going on walks, seeing some of kyah's fave places to eat, etc. wesley was a great sleeper for most of the trip and i was even getting some rest (thanks to my mom to took him every morning so i could sleep in!).
wes hung out in his high chair on the kitchen island quite a bit watching all the goings on around him. here he is getting his first taste of home-made whipped cream... what a treat (and a challenge!) to get to lick it from the beater!
(p.s. kyah designed their whole remodel and she has such great taste. i didn't get many pics of the house itself b/c i didn't take my nice big camera so my point-and-shoot would not do the details justice, but you can see some of the house in the background of the pics maybe. she is a pro!)
finishing touches on thanksgiving meal before feasting... aunt izzy, nana and aunt cat

aunt kyah and wez

this long hallway leads into the main kitchen/dining/great room area. wes loved to do laps here on the beautiful distressed hardwoods :)

i loved walking through the neighborhoods by kyah's house in east nashville. beautiful old homes that are being well taken care of. cute little shops and restaurants. we walked one day to do some antique shopping and get ice cream in a cute little district.

the last night in nashville was rough b/c wes woke up a lot and only wanted to be held... alllll night. i knew that wasn't a good sign b/c wesley never wants to be cuddled to sleep,
unless he's sick. the flight home was difficult. he slept a bit but had a fever and was not happy. nine hours of travel later, we arrived home and were so glad to be back! over the course of this week, i (of course) got the same thing wes was fighting, and by wednesday we were both suffering from fever, chills, headaches, etc etc etc. we finally saw wesley's pediatrician when he kept refusing fluids, and learned that not only did he have a double ear infection, but what i was fighting was most likely the H1N1 virus. i assumed he must have it too since we had been together non-stop, and the next day the pediatrician confirmed that since the antibiotics for the ear infection didn't bring the fever down.
so.... we spent thanksgiving curled up in sweats reading, napping, medicating and getting healthy. our friends who we were planning to spend thanksgiving with brought us our thanksgiving meal, which we were so grateful for! andy and i watched a christmas movie and ate our yummy meal and went to bed early. it was actually quite a nice thanksgiving despite the several medicines/vitamins/tissues laying around the house... surely one we will never forget (nor one we want to duplicate)!!
we are all doing much better now. not 100%, but certainly on our way.
we have so much to be thankful for this year... a god who has blessed us beyond measure with dear friends and family, a roof over our heads and good food to eat, healthy bodies and a thirst for a life lived to its fullest. and that's just to name a few!
hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving.
with love,
the o's
